His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has made it known
that the Nasarawa State Government would ensure
better utilization of the corridor to the Federal Capital Territory, to ensure
a smoother flow of traffic, better hygiene and the effective keying in to
President Muhammadu Buhari’s
diversification programme for the growth and comfort
of residents of the state and those in the Greater Karu
Area.
Governor Almakura made
this known as he led a high powered delegation to inspect some areas of Karu and Mararaba with a view
towards effecting some changes that would rid the area of gridlock and ensure
traders/ motor parks do not remain a nuisance.
The Governor made it known that the comfort of
the FCT would continue to be rendered by its neighboring states, stating that
the Government of Nasarawa state would ensure the
needed services and utilities are provided to the people by ensuring provision
of roads, bridges and culverts in water logged areas.
He said the government has reconstructed 4000
shops in the Karu International Market, reviewed the
concept with a view of changing it from an elitist view to a market that would
carry all sorts of traders. Which would provide lockup shops for the big time traders , warehouses for the those interested in warehouse
business and at the same time providing for the small time trader who are just
making a living by the day.
He also said that Nasarawa
state has keyed into the diversification programme of
the President, not only in the agricultural and solid mineral sectors and but
taking it into every sector especially the commercial sector. Stating that the
government had concluded the construction and improvements that would enable
activities in the market start immediately without any hitches.
Stating that the Government was in talks with the
Presidency on what date Mr. President could come and commission the Karu International Market before the end of the year. He
called on all owners of shops within the market to start getting ready to start
business in the market ahead of the commissioning ceremony.
He disclosed that the they would evacuate all
traders from the road sides ( from Karu
international Market to the boundary to the FCT) into the market by providing
them five hectares for use as open shop by those that cannot afford shops and
enable them fit into the government’s plans for diversification, and providing
bus stops every 300 meters on both sides.
He called on all traders by the roadside traders
and motor parks to relocate to the space provided within two week
,or be tagged as violators , stating that the government upgrade was
working commending residents for complying with the sanitation programmes.
He also disclosed that the road Gurku Panda would be embarked upon with a view to
constructing the three bridges and asphalting the road to ensure its completion
before the end of the year.
Lastly, Gov. Almakura
made it known that the value addition programme had
commenced and theinstallation of streetlights with
CCTV and wifi access was ongoing and would soon be
running to provide added security and services to the people within the area.
The Governor’s delegation included the SSG Barr.
Mohammed Abdullahi, the Commissioners of Lands, Works
, Commerce, the General Manager NUDB, SSAs in charge Waste Management,
Demolition Control , Greater Karu and other top state
officials in charge of development , markets and security.
