His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has restated the commitment of the Nasarawa State Government towards ensuring a conducive atmosphere for learning is provided at all schools , and ensuring the safety of children in schools.
Gov. Almakura disclosed this during a visit to Government Secondary School Nyanya Gbagyi in Karu LGA, which was currently housing a central primary school, junior secondary school and a senior secondary school within the premises.
The Governor stopped over to see how conducive the school was for learning , seeing that it was being encroached by mechanics, welders, restaurants car dealers and other make shift businesses that had become a distraction and a treat to the serenity of the school.
Following the inspection of the school, he discovered that the school was exposed and vehicles had made an alternative route through the school endangering the safety and lives of the school children.
Speaking to the students and staff of the school the Governor stated that he was dismayed with the stalls and shops surrounding the school and even some containers mounted besides classrooms that were blocking sunlight and ventilation from reaching some classes. A situation he described as unacceptable directing that all around the school be cleared by the relevant authorities immediately, and the Area Inspectorate Officer to come to Lafia to meet with the Ministry of Education to discuss on how a fence could be provided around the school.
He noted that given the high number of student and the inadequate number of classrooms the government would commence construction of three (3) blocks of classrooms after the visit of Mr. President , further stating that the school would also receive a supply of 2000 pieces of school furniture .
Lastly , Gov. Almakura called on the students to always be hardworking, respectfully and honest as that would be the only way they could progress and become important people that would hold high positions in the country.
It would be recalled that the administration had been constructing fences around all schools in the state as a means to provide safe conducive environments of learning to government schools to secure and avoid distractions to children at school.
