Farmer Herder Problems in Nasarawa / Benue May be at an End Gov. Almakura

His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has expressed hope that the long standing problem between the Fulani herdsmen and the Agatu farmers of Benue may finally be at an end, as they have had very useful meetings with the Fulani leadership of the areas involved who were now ready to come to the table and discuss the solutions.

Gov. Almakura made this known following a meeting at the Government House Lafia between the Fulani Leadership , Security officials, Agatu residents of Nasarawa State and officials of the state Government which was a fallout from the meeting held with His Excellency Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue earlier in the week.

Gov. Almakura who said the meeting with the Fulani was very successful as they were ready to come and discuss with the Benue State Governor and the Agatu Community within a fortnight, he said the success came due to the sincerity and bluntness that was expressed bringing to the surface the genesis and solutions that may finally end hostilities an bring lasting solutions.

According to the Governor the Makurdi meeting has shown the need for an amicable resolution of the issue at stake , where he was point blank on the need to harmonize views of stakeholders of both the Fulani and Aguta with a view of arriving at a common front which in no doubt compliment the Government efforts of ensuring peace.

It would be recalled that Governor Samuel Ortom and his Nasarawa Counterpart, Tanko Almakura have fixed eighteenth of this Month to visit Agatu Local Government Area following a security meeting held at the Benue People's House, Makurdi.

They said that the decision was follow up of an earlier agreement reached between them and members of their State Security councils sometime early last year in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Governors Ortom and Almakura agreed that the two States would keep an eagle eye on the Boarder between them to forestall any outbreak of law and order.

They nullified any decision reached on the Faluni-Agatu crisis outside the agreement between the two State governments pending the outcome of the scheduled meeting, both governments very confident the meeting would end the recent problems.
