His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has commended the Federal University Lafia for being one of the most peaceful, most stable learning environments in the country.
Gov. Almakura made the call during a courtesy visit by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Sunusi Liman and principle officers of the University at the Government House Lafia.
The Governor commended the vice chancellor for fast tracking development in all field since assuming office, equally commended the his predecessor and first Vice Chancellor, Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide for the work she did, which allowed the consolidating of the gains at the university.
He commended the opening of a faculty of Education which he applauded stating that with the falling standard of education such a department would be welcomed the advantages they bring to the educational sector, confident that when this come on stream some changes would be seen.
The Governor called on the university to equally put up a department of Special Education that would cater for those with special needs, stating that this was a areas that was highly in need of specialists that would handle those with different kinds of disabilities. Further stating that it would add value to the University as the state has already constructed 3 special schools one in each zone that would provide for those with disability .
He appreciated the kind words they had said about the little efforts they had made over the years stating that was a pedestal that would bring more , stating that the Federal University Lafia has not seen the best yet.
Delivering his speech earlier ,the Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Sunusi Liman appreciated the efforts of the Nasarawa State Governor at the University, stating that the University would forever remain grateful to the Nasarawa state Government under the focused , progressive and committed leadership of Gov. Almakura.
“..at the risk of sounding sycophantic , the authorities of FULafia have reached a conclusion that no other state government has assisted an institution of learning , particularly federal University , as much as your government did in that last six years. These efforts , clearly , demonstrate your personal commitment to develop the education sector in Nasarawa State , in particular , and Nigeria in general. “
The Vice Chancellor spoke about some of the advancements the university had put in place such as the newly established the Centre for Foundation Studies, the Interim Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (IJAMB) and the Facility of Medicine which the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) would serve as the teaching Hospital.
Prof. Liman lauded the Governor Almakuras efforts for the Federal University which have enbled it it full function effectively such as the donation of the old secretariat building, registers lodges , electricity transformer, the ongoing construction of the female hostel and the donation of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) to the university to serve as a teaching hospital .
He further stated that the passion of education of the governor which as been translated into concrete achievements as well as his desire for academic excellence has made the university honour the Governor by naming a newly constructed 500 seater lecture hall after him, which would be called Umaru Tanko Al-Makura Lecture Hall.
Lastly ,he expressed the appreciation and readiness of the management team to always collaborate with the Governor and his administration to develop the educational sector.
