His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has given assurance to support the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa towards the successful hosting of the 2016 Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) which would be hosted in the last Quarter of the year.
Gov. Almakura who made this known during curtsey visit by the Rector and Management staff of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa where he was made aware the institution had gotten the hosting rights for the games, which was the first time such an event was coming to the state. He directed that they meet up with the Hon. Commissioner of Sports to see how the state could come in and assist to the hosting of the games.
The Governor thanked them for the kind words they had given the administration and its projects, explaining that he was glad some persons could see the plans of the administration which looked towards the future not the past. Appreciating their acknowledgement of some of the noble projects which have been put in place he said was an elixir to do even more and continue to give the state the benefits of the administration being in office. While making it known that the administration was trying to transformation of the physic and mentality of the average Nasarawa citizen to think in line with best practices ,to think of the future and bring it to day so the upcoming generation will not wallow in despair. Making it known they would continue to enlighten the people and do what is right.
He commended the Rector and the Management of the Federal Polytechnic for the excellent handling of the school which has made it one of the most peaceful in the North Central, where he urged them to continue to deliver. Stating that it was not that they didn’t have problems, but their ways of handling them which has made them a shining example for others to emulate.
He commended the foresight of the kind of courses which were
currently being run in the school such as the entrepreneurial education which
would add value to the lives of the students allow in them to come out as
employers not employees. He intimated that there would be a collaboration
between the State University the Federal Polytechnic and the state Polytechnic
when the Skill Acquisition Programme kicks off next month stating that over 300
million Naira worth of items had already arrived and would be put to use when
the Singaporean partners from the Singapore Institute For Technical Education
come to help set up the programme.
Speaking of the Solid Mineral Laboratory which was established years ago was part of the administrations vision which has now been realized with the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari who has come and diversifying the economy. He gave the assuring that the government would ensure the contractor returns to work and would put more funds into the project to ensure it swift completion.
Speaking in his address earlier the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Prof. Shettima A. Saidu praised the special attention the administration had given education especially the establishment and upgrading of schools from primary to tertiary , establishment of e-libraries and provision of student bursaries. As well as provision of modern healthcare facilities, construction of roads and drainages to mention a few.
The Rector explained the efforts of the institution to support the state through the train of people to acquire technical and vocational skills needed for economic and social development of Nigeria especially in the fields of agriculture , industry and commerce which conducting viable research in areas of agriculture and solid minerals processing and development . Where he made it known they had introduced courses taking into cognizance of the ongoing economic diversification efforts championed by Mr. President to bring out more hands on skills training , supported with entrepreneurial background for student to become employers of labour rather than job seekers. He further explained the partnerships the school was working on with many globally known technical schools.
The Rector informed Governor Almakura of the hosting rights given to the Federal Polytechnic to host the 2016 edition of the Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) which would be the 19th edition and the first ever to be hosted by the state , stating that the Governor would be the Chief Host of the event which would bring together students from all the Polytechnics in the country .
He also appealed to the Governor that there were some needs and facilities they would like the government to assist with/in, which the support of the government would be needed towards hosting the historic fiesta , which he said would be a pride to the entire state and earn its tagged title “Nasara 2016”.
