Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service Commissions Operational Vehicles, State Revenue Boss Confident to Meet Revenue Targets

The Executive Chairman, Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service, Alh. Ahmed Yakubu Muhammad has given the Boards assurance towards meeting its annual targets through ensuring the board functions better for optimum performance increasing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the state, commending His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura for the political will to move the State Revenue Service to greater heights.

The Chairman disclosed this delivering his speech at the official handing over of operational vehicles to the Board by Ministry of Finance to boost operations in the Lagos, Abuja and Karu liaison offices and zonal office respectively as well as ten (10) motorcycles to other zonal and area tax offices within the state in a brief ceremony held at the Head office of the Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service ( Revenue House), Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The Chairman used the occasion to recount some of the Boards milestones achievements which marked their 100 days since assuming office. This included the steady increase in the monthly IGR to the State Government Coffers by 11.5% as compared to the same period last year. (January to July, 2017 and January to July 2018), established the Lagos and Abuja Tax Liaison offices with the deployment of competent Tax Administrators to tap the untapped revenue potentials due to Nasarawa State Laying idle before now.

Further stating that they had eliminated some loopholes and leakages from the service by strengthening the internal control system through the injecting no some initiatives into the processes and procedures of the service, as well as initiated, coordinated the collaboration and exchange of tax information amongst the Departments of the Service to enhance expedited action by relevant Departments on related matters, harmonizing the remittance of all revenues collected into the State which would improve the IGR .

Alh. Muhammad also spoke on the establishment of the State Joint Revenue Committee, a platform of the State Internal Revenue Service and all Local Government and Development Area Councils amongst other reasons, to serve as an arbiter for disputes resolution on revenue matters for the first time in the history of the State as required by the extant tax laws, stating the engagement of Computer World Group (CWG), a world class expert in Gaming, Pool Betting, Casino and Lottery as Technical Partner for administration of relevant taxes from the sector whose potentials have never been tapped before.

The Revenue Boss commended the Members, Management and Staff on their success in raising the confidence and building the trust of the Taxpaying public on the State Internal Revenue Service operations through the Media and Public Private Dialogue approach, and strengthening existing relationship with the Media Houses both print and electronic by signing and sealing retainer-ship agreements in keeping Taxpayers abreast of all tax matters ongoing in the State. Noting that the board had gone cashless only collecting bank deposit slips paid into approved revenue accounts.

The vehicles commissioned included One Toyota Hilux Pickup, One 18 Seater Toyota Hiace Bus, One Toyota Corolla Saloon Car, Two Volkwagen Golf Cars and Ten Motorcycles.( All Banded and installed with Tracking devices for identification and monitoring).

Lastly, Alh. Ahmed Yakubu Muhammad commended His Excellency, Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura informing him that they had put in place the machinery to reach the target he has set for them and to further surpass it. Giving his assurance that with the confidence and support the Governor has reposed on them, they have no reason to fail.
