His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has disclosed that the state orphanage/ motherless babies home was moving the GRA to provide a befitting home that would provide a good beginning as well as a better quality of life for children living in the orphanage.
Governor Almakura disclosed this during an on the spot assessment of the Maimuna J. Katai Memorial Orphanage /Children’s Home , where he interacted with children and staff of the home as was taken round by the Commissioner of Women Affairs Hon. Chief (Mrs.) Mary Enwongulu.
The Governor spoke highly of the orphanage which he said was operated by the State Government to care for the health , wellbeing and education of the motherless children who was had only the Government to cater for their upbringing , commended the care , commitment and love shown by the staff of the orphanage assuring them of the engagement of more staff to assist in the care of the children.
Gov. Almakura explained that with the passage of time and the progress they were making there was a need to move forward, and have a more sophisticated and more modern approach towards caring for the motherless children in the orphanage, Governor Almakura disclosed that a befitting place had been found for the Orphanage within the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of the capital where they would move the Orphanage home to ,stating that they had already commenced the building of the new structure which would be ready within the next four months ,
The Governor further disclosed that a different approached would be taken for care of the Orphanage as the orphans would also get to benefit from the advantages of the GRA such as the calmness of the environment, better medical care (as a doctor would come to the home twice a week), utilities and facilities as well as a playground dedicated to the children,
.He explained that the home would have good ventilation, the conveniences of solar power lightening ,the mini schools and visitors rooms making it one of a kind and uplifting the lives of the orphans , giving them the chance to grow up as normal children in a middle class home. He made it known that a vehicle would be allocated to the Home
Lastly, he stated that the orphanage would strengthen its adoption procedures and paperwork for foster parents to ensure the wellbeing of the children adopted by foster parent , ensuring that once a month a Child Services Officer personally checks up on the adopted children at their new homes.
