His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has attributed prudence, accountability, transparency the fear of God as the secrets to the success of his administration since he entered office which have been the articles of faith that guide the running of his government.
Gov. Almakura who made this know as he held and interactive session with Course 39 participants of the Armed Force Command and Staff College, Jaij , where the participants who had been in the state for 5 day and had been previewed to presentations on the activities of the state , had visited various local governments and persons of interest in the state during their visit were allowed to direct all their questions to the State Chief Executive during a question and answer session at the government House Lafia.
On the question of how the state with such low resources achieve so much Governor Almakura stated that it was the management of the resources and using his experience in the private sector to ensure a reduction in the contract sums in some cases as low as 50% reduction, then the ethical reorientation of the civil servants and public officials to block leakages and getting them to understand the new workings of government, that deals with accountability and proper management of government resources which he ensured by leading by example.
The governor who explained that all the asphalt roads within the state today were constructed by his administration and so far over 200 km had be completed with almost 100 km more currently under construction at various stages of completion.
Speaking on some key areas of the state such as power supply , mining and closeness to the FCT and what the state was doing he explained that the state had finally gotten the approval to get the 33 line which is befitting for the state.
On mining he spoke on how the solid mineral s were taken from the state and diverted to other states which would then get the attention of the federal Government and that state would then get the revenue for those minerals, stating that the state was working with the Minister of Solid Minerals on how the state could get the revenue due for its minerals.
On the closeness to the FCT he spoke extensively on how the state housed the major workforce of the FCT which was about 50% which drains the state by using the resources provided and not paying any revenue to the state while also giving the FCT their taxes. Lastly, he spoke on the state and it inclusive government policy where the government would ensure that all the vulnerable members of society were carried along speaking about the disabled, the IDPs, People Living With HIV even the prisoners and how the state would ensure they were not left behind but given their chance to become productive members of society , as the government belongs to all of us.
Speaking some participants of the Course 39 spoke highly on the efforts of the state government stating that seeing was indeed believing and they were now very informed.
Thanking the state government for the wonderful learning experience and describing the state was blessed with human and material resources.
Lastly saying that the state would get to know when their full report would be presented at the Army College next year
