His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has tasked the Revenue Mobilization to correct the revenue due to Nasarawa state so as to enable Nasarawa State take its rightful place on the allocation table and meet up with its huge responsibility of housing a majority of FCT workers.
Gov. Almakura who made the call as he paid a Courtesy visit to the Commission Head Office in Abuja along with the state Commissioner of Finance Dr. Dominic Bako and other government officials, where he was received by the Acting Chairman of the commission Shettima Umar Abba Gana.
The Governor described the challenges affecting the state which have led to the call for proper placing on the allocation table with would provide the state the much needed resources to provide for its citizens.
Some of the issues he spoke of included the inaccurate census figures of the state which the state had gone to court for and won its case but had not affected the revenue allocation, he also spoke about the inter-ethnic and farmers/herdsmen conflicts in the Southern and Western senatorial districts between 2003 and 2014, which as a responsible government the state had to provide some level of relief materials at various occasions as well as the non-inclusion of Nasarawa State in those to receive from 13% provided for mineral producing states.
Lastly he spoke about how Nasarawa State found itself at the receiving end by its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as the wear and tear of the vast population explosion in the Karu-Keffi corridor was left only to the state while over 60% of the residents living there paid their taxes elsewhere, as the state was overwhelmed with services to provide.
Gov. Almakura said it was for this reasons that the Government of Nasarawa State solicits the urgent intervention of the Federal Government through all relevant stakeholders, including the revenue Commission towards ameliorating the situation. Stating that this option will be a veritable window that will enable the State stabilize as well as strive to improve the living standard of our people in the years ahead.
Responding the Acting Chairman of the commission Shettima Umar Abba Gana. thanked the Governor for the visit and the clear presentation of the Nasarawa State Situation, he said they would try to address the issue as best they can.
He said the state government should bring submit the court judgement on the census figures along with other document to the Commission to work on it. Stating that they understand the problem of states with proximity to the FCT especially Nasarawa .
