His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has expressed the administrations readiness to welcome investors into the ongoing plan of the Nasarawa state Government to develop smart cities, by ensuring new layouts such as the 13,000 hectre Gurku-Kabusu City Project and restructuring plans for existing townships to confrere with the smart city concept.
Gov. Almakura made this known as he delivered a presentation of “The Investment Opportunities on Smart Cities Projects in Nasarawa State”, during the smart talk session at the Smart Cities Summit Nigeria at the Transcorp Hotel Abuja hosted by Information Communication Technology giants Huawei.
The Governor stole the show as he showcased Nasarawa State achievements, plans, opportunities and benefits to the audience, shedding light on the work done so far by the state Government through the Nasarawa Development Platform Project such as Appointment of world-class Consultant, complete Digital Aerial Mapping of the state, setting up the Nasarawa Geographic Information Service (NAGIS), District Planning of major cities and the Smart Street Lightning project .
The Governor described Nasarawa State as beginners in the keying into the smart city concept as he invited investors to come to Nasarawa State and be part of the creation of a new smart city by investing in the 13,000 hectre Gurku Kabusu project in the areas of Real Estate, Infrastructure, Health Facilities, Education and Training Facilities, Commercial and Markets, Waste Management, Broadband Connectivity, Power generation and Recreational and Amusement Parks to name a few of the investment opportunities available .
The Nasarawa State pavilion was flooded with guests who trooped in to see , read and get more informed about the Nasarawa state’s progress in the smart city concept.
Other Smart talks on the opening day of the event included “ Frameworks & Models for Smart Cities Initiatives Leading New ICT to Build a better Smart City” by Huawei’s Chief Expert of Smart Cities Peter Goulding.
While IBM’s Government Industry Leader Rizwan Hussain presented “Smarter Cities :fast forward through leadership and innovations” Which covered global trends and imperatives , strategic enabler for building smart cities with innovative smart city examples of how smart cities get started.
The Smart Talk Session had a very wide audience which included representatives of some Governors ,Ministers of Communication Technology , Barr. Adebayo Abdur-Raheem Shittu , the Minster of Environment Alh. Ibrahim Usman Jibril, ICT experts from leading companies, Esu Karu , Emir of Gurku. some members of the Nasarawa State Executive Council and a host of others.
